Perspective

We think that the harm caused in families and social networks originates in disrupted development and destructive relationships.

So our goal is to prevent harm, protect and promote wellbeing by interrupting harmful intimate and social relationship patterns, repairing where possible and supporting alternatives where necessary.

Partnership Approach

We understand that goodwill and trust is essential for authentic exchange of information. We are accordingly good at negotiating with commissioners and project stakeholders to achieve project outcomes as discretely and respectfully as possible.

Process

Our project/research process sets clear timelines within which activity can be tailored to research or project requirements, for example, to design or refine the project plan, clarify ethical considerations, scope fieldwork participation; or to act quickly to meet very tight deadlines.

This approach begins from an in-depth understanding of abuse and neglect-related trauma, the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences and the potential life-course consequences of untreated trauma.

It requires systematically gathering feedback from service users, staff, provider organisations and partners. This includes really understanding performance and outcomes information and continuing the engagement to jointly develop innovative, effective services .

We think that the negative consequences of dysfunction and distress affects individual’s whole lives and spreads into their social networks and communities.

This applies to all forms of intimate partner, family and group abuse and neglect: where children or adults are sexually, physically or emotionally abused, are living with mental ill health, substance misuse and/or domestic abuse; are being groomed or bullied on and off-line; are missing, trafficked, harmed through culture or faith related practices or are themselves harming others. Anyone can be affected regardless of their gender, ethnicity, abilities and social position. Their safety depends on us all challenging abuse of power – through commission or omission.

We believe that trauma-informed, whole-person responses are relevant to all these abuses, and neglect, in all these circumstances.
